Local Information for
Dillon, Colorado
The family-friendly town of Dillon has quite a unique history. The town was first settled near the scenic confluence of the Blue, Snake and Ten Mile rivers, but the residents of Dillon were forced to move twice when railroads came through the area. Then, in 1960, the town was forced to move yet again when a dam was built to create Lake Dillon.
Today, the lake provides drinking water to the residents of Denver and recreational opportunities for Summit County’s visitors and residents. And Dillon is quite at home in its new location along the scenic banks of its namesake lake. Lake Dillon thrives in summer with sailing, canoeing and motorboats and the sandy shores on the Dillon side of the lake are one of the best spots to enjoy reflections of the surrounding mountains.
The Dillon Marina offers every amenity to complement the lake, including pontoon and sailboat rentals, slips for private boats, sailing lessons, the Tiki bar and the world’s highest yacht club. The town also provides and maintains miles of paved bike path along the lake.
With an 8-screen movie theater, a bowling alley and arcade, Dillon is one of the top attractions for family activities in the county. Great shopping is available around the downtown area, at the Dillon Ridge Marketplace and at the Dillon Factory Stores. Dining options in Dillon range from Japanese to American to Italian, or pick up a picnic lunch at a deli.
The Lake Dillon Amphitheater, with its amazing views of the lake, bustles in the summer with free music, theater and special programs. The amphitheater now has more seating and many other improvements to help you enjoy the various programs and events held throughout the summer months.
In the summer, Dillon is also home to the Friday Farmer’s Market, an open-air market with fresh grown produce, homemade baked goods, pastas, pestos, jams, cheeses and more. In the wintertime, quaint and cozy Dillon is centrally located along the free bus routes and less than 20 minutes from any of the county’s ski areas. Visit Dillon year-round for its great entertainment, family activities and for some of the most stunning views of Lake Dillon and its surrounding peaks that can be had in the county.
