Local Information for
Silverthorne, Colorado
From a construction camp, to a refueling stop, to a thriving residential community, Silverthorne has experienced considerable change since its incorporation in 1967. Back then, the town was a makeshift camp for workers building the Dillon Dam.
Today, the town draws scores of shoppers to the Silverthorne Factory Stores, rafters and fishermen to the Blue River, and rodeo lovers to its annual Mountain Community Fair. The $6.4 million, 52,000 square foot Silverthorne Recreation Center is a popular family attraction, offering swimming and lap pools, a water slide, running track, cardiovascular and free weight areas, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and much more.
With its many residential areas, the county’s once-smallest town is now among the largest. At approximately 3,000 residents, Silverthorne is a community hub. The town recently underwent another dramatic change with the opening of The Pavilion, a new structure on the banks of the Blue River, which accommodates shopping, dining and gathering spaces for public and private events.
Silverthorne abounds with natural beauty. With the Eagle’s Nest Wilderness to the west and the Ptarmigan Wilderness area to the east, Silverthorne offers direct access to miles of backcountry trails for hiking, climbing and horseback riding right out your door in the summer, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.
The Blue River, a Gold Medal trout stream, snakes through the heart of the community, making Silverthorne a popular fishing location and a draw for canoes, kayaks and rafts. Another summer attraction is The Raven, a championship 18-hole golf club that reopened with a new design in 2004.
For shoppers, a stop in Silverthorne is a must. The town offers 130 retail shops, including 80 that are part of the Silverthorne Factory Stores complex. A newly constructed Visitor Information Center is located at the Factory Stores on the north side of Interstate 70. The Summit Place shopping center on the south side of Interstate 70 provides a wide variety of shops and restaurants.
With its wide variety of shopping, dining and outdoor activity, Silverthorne has established itself as a year-round community attractive to both residents and visitors alike.
